Used in beer making as a water treatment. Gypsum increases hardness and lowers pH. Its use is known to increase the perception of hop flavor compounds in beer.
And also to add permanent hardness to brewing water. Most often used when brewing British style beers when your water is soft.
- Additions can be put in the brewing water or directly into the mash.
- Recommended sulphate-to-chloride ratio: 4:1 – Hoppy; 1:1 – Balanced; 0.5:1 – Malty
